Every landfill is a dynamic system, characterized by its own history, facility configuration, and management approach.
EXE supports public and private operators in the monitoring, verification, and optimization of biogas collection and treatment systems, combining field experience, specialized instrumentation, and data analysis.
The goal is to transform the information gathered into concrete technical guidance, useful for both day-to-day operations and the planning of future interventions.
Areas of intervention
Collection network
EXE carries out qualitative and quantitative monitoring of biogas wells, substations, and collection networks.
Analyzing composition, flow rate, and negative pressure makes it possible to evaluate the performance of individual points as well as the system as a whole, identifying suboptimal settings, air ingress, pressure drops, and other conditions that may limit capture efficiency.
The data collected are processed to define targeted adjustments and interventions, supporting the operator in the progressive optimization of the network.
What we analyze
Environmental monitoring
Fugitive emissions consist of biogas that passes through the landfill surfaces without being captured by the collection system.
EXE conducts monitoring campaigns using specialized instrumentation and surface sampling systems, aimed at locating and quantifying emission areas.
These investigations can be supplemented with aerial thermography and perimeter monitoring to identify surface anomalies and any potential migration of biogas toward surrounding areas.
The results make it possible to evaluate the effectiveness of the landfill cover and gas collection systems, as well as to pinpoint specific zones where remedial actions should be focused.
What we analyze
Biogas plant
The biogas captured by the wells is collected by the network and transferred to facilities for extraction, combustion, treatment, or energy recovery.
EXE verifies the quantity and quality of the extracted gas and analyzes the performance of the plant’s key components: wells, primary and secondary lines, substations, extraction stations, flares, and energy recovery systems.
Comparing the production potential, the actual amount captured, and the gas utilized makes it possible to identify any inefficiencies throughout the supply chain.
What we analyze
Planning
Understanding tomorrow’s energy potential today. Production forecasting allows for the estimation of how biogas generation will evolve over time, serving as a support tool for the technical and economic planning of a facility.
The analysis takes into account the specific characteristics of the landfill: the quantity and type of waste deposited, the timeline of deposits, climatic conditions, structural configuration, management practices, and future scenarios.
Theoretical production is then compared against available real-world data, making it possible to assess the site’s residual potential and its actual recovery capacity.
What we analyze
Design
EXE conducts assessments of the current status of biogas collection, extraction, combustion, and energy recovery systems.
The analysis covers primary and secondary networks, substations, pressure drops, extraction systems, and the overall plant configuration.
Based on the findings, operational proposals are developed —including modifications, bypasses, expansions, or revamping — aimed at resolving identified critical issues and improving performance.
Support can also extend to project definition and technical assistance during the implementation of these interventions.
What we analyze
Aerial surveys
EXE integrates field operations with drone-based surveys, orthophotogrammetry, and thermography.
The resulting images and models make it possible to document the condition of the landfill, update the site’s planimetric layout, and identify surface anomalies that may be linked to the presence or leakage of biogas.
These surveys thus serve as a complementary tool to the specific, localized measurements taken in the field.
What we analyze
Every EXE activity begins with the specific characteristics of the site and concludes with technical guidelines that can be used for management, design, or the planning of interventions.
